What is involved with a Roadworthy Certificate in Geelong?
March 27, 2017BJT Automotive are Licenced Vehicle Testers, so if you need a Roadworthy Certificate in Geelong we can help you out.
Whenever a vehicle is sold or needs to be re-registered a roadworthy certificate is required. Only an accredited LVT can issue a roadworthy certificate. VicRoads are pretty fussy when it comes to roadworthy’s and it is important they are carried out thoroughly and all information recorded correctly. VicRoads officers make regular visits and conduct audits to ensure their requirements are being met. This involves checking the premises to ensure any necessary testing equipment is compliant, testing staff hold the correct qualifications, and records of the vehicles are accurate and kept secure including photographs of the vehicle, to name just a few.
A roadworthy inspection is not a mechanical inspection that looks at the running of the vehicle and the condition of the motor, but moreso a safety inspection to ensure the vehicle is in good condition to travel on the roads. VicRoads require the following to be inspected:
- vehicle structure
- suspension, steering and braking systems
- lights
- tyres and wheels
- seat belts
- windscreen
If there are items that fail to meet the required standard, the vehicle will not pass. In this case, you have 7 days to attend to the failed item/s and once fixed the vehicle will be reassessed. If the 7 days lapse a full safety check would need to be carried out again. A roadworthy certificate is valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
