Why do you need a good Geelong mechanic?
April 24, 2020When it comes to servicing and maintaining your car yes, there are some things you can do yourself to keep your car in good nick. But you do need to pay careful attention to what you’re doing, and you need to make sure you find yourself a Geelong mechanic to do the big stuff for you.
Keeping a check of the fluids in your car and the tyre pressure is basic and a good idea. Sometimes though people can get caught out making silly and often costly mistakes. Good examples of this is leaving the cap off the radiator or the engine oil filler. We recently had a new customer bring their car in for a service, we popped the bonnet and the engine was covered in oil. Turns out a friend had topped up their oil but forgot to put the oil filler cap back on. Lucky for this customer it was picked up early enough that the only damage done was an oily mess through the engine, which we cleaned. But had it gone any longer then the damage could have been much more significant with the engine running out of oil and seizing. Not good!
Some people choose to service their own car which is fine, but again you need to be careful. We often see cars that have been serviced at home but with only the basics being done. A lot of fluid changes are missed and it is not as easy to give the car a thorough checkover without a hoist. The wheels need to come off for rotation and proper brake inspection, and this often isn’t done. That’s why it is essential to have the big stuff taken care of by a Geelong mechanic. It’s their job, they’re fully qualified and they have all the tools and equipment at their fingertips to do the job right. Not to mention their experience and knowledge. The guys at BJT have close to an impressive 100 years of combined experience.
We recommend keeping up basic checks on your car and are always happy to show you what to do if you aren’t sure. And when it comes to servicing that’s a job for us, so contact us to take care of it for you. It could definitely save you a lot in the long run!
