A Car Service in Geelong Uncovers a Stalactite, or is it a Stalagmite?!

July 24, 2016

We had a new customer bring their 2008 Toyota Corolla to us for a car service in Geelong and we discovered something quite unusual! Our mechanic found that the coolant had been leaking from the lower radiator hose and had basically formed a stalactite that had become so big it joined on to the gearbox underneath.

It is very unusual to see such a large build up of coolant. As the vehicle had been previously serviced and maintained elsewhere it would seem that the leak had gone unnoticed for quite some time. We showed the customer the photos of the leak and she was very grateful for our thorough work. New radiator hoses were fitted, the engine cooling system was flushed and the coolant replaced. The photos below show the before and after (unfortunately our mechanic is much better at servicing cars than photography!).

During our many years of carrying out car service in Geelong we have never come across this before. It was certainly an unexpected and most unusual find. And for the record, we can call it a stalactite as they hang down from a ceiling of a cave whereas a stalagmite is an upward growing mound. Just incase you are wondering what the difference is between the two – which I’m sure you’re not!

We pride ourselves on our thorough car servicing and our attention to detail. We value our customers and always make sure that our work is top notch. If you’re wanting more information about our awesome Geelong workshop then please contact us!
