How long is a Roadworthy Certificate Valid in Geelong?

March 3, 2016

We are often asked if a Roadworthy Certificate is issued in Geelong, how long it is valid for. Particularly as each state in Australia has different regulations when it comes to roadworthy certificates.

When a car has passed the roadworthy inspection, the certificate is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. After this time if a certificate is required, the vehicle would need to be presented again for another inspection. On the other hand, if a vehicle fails the inspection the failed items would need to be fixed before a new roadworthy inspection is performed and a certificate provided.

At BJT Automotive we are licenced VicRoads Vehicle Testers and can carry out a roadworthy inspection of your vehicle. If you are selling or re-registering a car in Geelong a roadworthy certificate is required. To help give you a better understanding of what is required to pass a roadworthy test, here are just some of the things that are looked at :

  • steering, suspension and braking systems
  • vehicle structure
  • wheels and tyres
  • seatbelts and seats
  • windscreen and windows including wipers and washers
  • lights and reflectors
  • other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine

We are happy to provide you with more information on roadworthy certificates, and give you a quote should you require one for your vehicle. Contact us at our Geelong workshop and we can give you all the information you need!
